Today's OTD[edit]

  • "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn ... was first published in the United Kingdom and Canada". This leaves it unclear whether this was the first edition or only the first edition in these countries. Surprisingly, considering the subject matter and the nationality of the author, it was the first edition ever. So I suggest to add a comma: "... was first published, in both the United Kingdom and Canada". Furthermore, consider adding on ", two months earlier than in the USA". Jmchutchinson (talk) 21:46, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
I like the idea of adding "two months earlier than in the USA", and have done so (except I think our default is US, not USA, so I used US). I think doing this makes adding the comma after "published" look funny, and while theoretically I suppose wording it that way means it's still possible it was published even earlier in Denmark or someplace, practically no one is going to think that now that the US is mentioned. IMHO. --Floquenbeam (talk) 23:29, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
The proposed mention of the US is completely superfluous. Lots of works are not published in the US first (or at all) for copyright reasons. Why not say "before Iran"? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 00:00, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Because Twain is so closely linked with the US. He is not closely linked with Iran. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:06, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, according to Hemingway, "All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn. American writing comes from that.” On the matter of the comma, I would have still have added one in, but agree that it is now not so important. Thanks. General discussion[edit]

Dear wiki author, I can't finding my desired subject after search in wiki search bar. How can I fix it? SHAWON2391 (talk) 01:58, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Workshopping a proposal for a new user group[edit]

Valereee and I have been working on a proposal to form a new usergroup whose members would be able to edit content on the main page or its fully protected subsidiaries. Since it directly affects this project, and is based in part on the shortage of administrators working here, we would like to invite feedback on the proposal at User talk:Vanamonde93/Main page editor‎. The proposal itself is at User:Vanamonde93/Main page editor‎. In particular, we would like to hear it if you are opposed to the whole thing on principle, because we would prefer to spend our time elsewhere if the proposal has no hope of being successful. Best, Vanamonde (Talk) 04:53, 9 December 2019 (UTC)
